Now more than ever companies are struggling for a variety of reasons. It is no secret that leadership roles are faced with challenging situations, nor is it uncommon for leadership to be questioned and critiqued in their roles. While leaders are currently presented with unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic, we have witnessed a shift in corporate perspective to reflect a people first mentality. Moreover, employees are not only recognizing these challenges, but are noticing leadership valuing and promoting the physical and mental health of their employees. Recently, I have spoken with several employees from varying industries who have a common insight on their respective leadership team; “Thank you”.
It’s a phrase that feels new to leaders everywhere. As we continue to traverse through unchartered territory, employees have witnessed their respective leadership teams embrace a people first mentality through:
- Engaging in transparent communications by providing updates on the pandemic
- Ensuring that employees remain safe and employed by leveraging remote working capabilities
- Encouraging mental health discussions and promoting company resources that can assist with employees and their families
- Reassuring employees that in-office presence is not required during the pandemic
As we continue to press forward during the pandemic, employees truly acknowledge the transparency in communication and strength that leadership teams have demonstrated. Embracing a people first mentality builds the foundation for a valued corporate culture and restores confidence for both employees and leadership.
